So snuggle up, grab some popcorn and turn the lights down low and enjoy some of these great movies! Love Story This romantic love movie is a classic on any romantic movie list. Two college students meet and fall in love. They get married and face many of the typical challenges newlyweds do. When they try to have children however, they learn she is very sick. Romeo and Juliet There are many versions of this movie, which is based on the classic Shakespeare tragedy of star crossed lovers and feuding families. My favorite of them all stars Leonardo Dicaprio and has a modern twist.

The area was originally a retreat for royal families and dignitaries in the 14th and 15th centuries due to its location within Sherwood Forest famed for its fresh air and exclusiveness.

In these early accounts, Robin Hood’s partisanship of the lower classes, his Marianism and associated special regard for women, his outstanding skill as an archer , his anti-clericalism, and his particular animosity towards the Sheriff of Nottingham are already clear. It is not certain what should be made of these latter two absences as it is known that Friar Tuck, for one, has been part of the legend since at least the later 15th century where he is mentioned in a Robin Hood play script.
This view first gained currency in the 16th century. The early compilation, A Gest of Robyn Hode , names the king as ‘Edward’; and while it does show Robin Hood accepting the King’s pardon, he later repudiates it and returns to the greenwood. The oldest surviving ballad, Robin Hood and the Monk , gives even less support to the picture of Robin Hood as a partisan of the true king.
The setting of the early ballads is usually attributed by scholars to either the 13th century or the 14th, although it is recognised they are not necessarily historically consistent. While the precise meaning of this term changed over time, including free retainers of an aristocrat and small landholders, it always referred to commoners. The essence of it in the present context was ‘neither a knight nor a peasant or “husbonde” but something in between’. The first record of a Robin Hood game was in in Exeter , but the reference does not indicate how old or widespread this custom was at the time.
The Robin Hood games are known to have flourished in the later 15th and 16th centuries. Written after , it contains many of the elements still associated with the legend, from the Nottingham setting to the bitter enmity between Robin and the local sheriff. Other early texts are dramatic pieces, the earliest being the fragmentary Robyn Hod and the Shryff off Notyngham c.

The Angel As a former chapel, brothel and premier palace of the best scuzzy rock nights Nottingham had to offer, the Old Angel has been servicing our citizens in one way or another for hundreds of years. Downstairs has been gutted and redone, with the upstairs venue due to open soon too, plus various other smaller spaces, and even their own onsite microbrewery.
In fact, their new pub The Herbert Kilpin, in the old Rhinegold restaurant in Bridlesmith Walk, shares a wall — and back yard — with the adjacent craft beer haven. The decent range of cask ales change, but last time in, there were showings from Wild Beer Co, Tiny Rebel and Black Iris, with more fearsome keg brews also on tap. Their food game is pretty strong too, with bar snacks like whitebait and posh sandwiches, and more substantial snap including mussels and pork belly.

By Car Ravenhill is not the most car-friendly of grounds due to the residential area that surrounds the ground, and associated strict parking restrictions. By Taxi The traffic in Belfast can be a little heavy around rush hour, but it is possible and possibly cost-effective in groups to get a taxi to Ravenhill from most parts of the City. ValueCabs are the main operator in town. After the game, there are taxis lined up and a queuing system in place to ferry people away from the ground.
By Train Whilst there are no rail stations particularly close to the ground, traingoers can alight at Belfast Central station beside the city’s redeveloped Waterfront area.
Our events give members the opportunity to get together at venues near them and share a drink, enjoy an activity and get to know each other. The boat on display in its special climatised museum hall Part of the insulating foam coating used to float and rescue the boat The remains of the Ancient Galilee Boat were found by brothers Moshe and Yuval Lufan, fishermen from Kibbutz Ginnosar. The brothers were keen amateur archaeologists with an interest in discovering artifacts from Israel’s past. It had always been their hope to one day discover a boat in the Sea of Galilee, where they and generations of their family had fished.
When drought reduced the water-level of the lake, the two brothers examined the newly exposed beach and stumbled across the remains of the boat buried in the shore. The brothers reported their discovery to the authorities who sent out a team of archaeologists to investigate. Realising that the remains of the boat were of tremendous historical importance to Jews and Christians alike, an archaeological dig followed, undertaken by members of Kibbutz Ginosar, the Israel Antiquities Authority , and numerous volunteers.
Rumour spread that the boat was full of gold and the dig had to be guarded night and day.
